My attempt at Growing Stock like Japanese

Hi all
With us all getting excited by Jow's posts from Japan, here is my attempt

I purchased 5 $3.50 Shimpaku Juniper starters, and 1 $10 tree in a 6" pot to9 try out.

I also had a Cutting from a Juniper Procumbens Nana that I had but had not worked out what to do with. As it was sitting on the bench looking lost it got the treatment too

I will hopefully use this thread to keep track of them and will update when I take new photos

Here is my $10 Shimpaku Which I have created a Shari down one side of the trunk
I had to use 5mm Wire to bend the Bottom section of the trunk

Great start Ken! Thanks for sharing and for taking such clear photographs.

If we all got busy and shaped up 20 of these twisted tree's each, in 5 to 10 years Australia would have some top bonsai stock going around! We should get a bit more adventurous and start twisting up some natives too. I have proven that Casuarina can bend nicely, who's going to be the first to do a Eucalypt?

I had some long tall whippy ones on the bench but they have had sever die back and have had to cut them right back hard
One has a bulbous lump above the soil that has many new shoots on it that I thought was going to be stuffed but maybe I can let them grow and do the twisty on.

I'll do two eucalypts on the weekend. Unfortunately, i cannot connect the camera to the computer to upload the pics however. I cant remember one of the species, the other is E. nicholii, however. Good idea Steven!

Ken, just scrolling thru old posts and came up with this one, would love to see these trees if indeed they have progressed under your care, still have them or moved on?

Yep one of them in the ground and the other is still in a pot ( I think )
I had 5 of them all potted into a single Poly Box for a few years, then repotted them all inot the ground or other pots.

The procumbens passed away long time ago.

I have graduated onto doing a similar thing with larger trees like my Shohin comp tree, and my School of Bonsai demos.
