New Stock

Post by Nathan »

Hi All

Had some pines sent up from Mason at Bonsai at the Bay so I thought that I would post a few photos, I am very happy with what I have received and the fact he was able to organise transport quite cheaply right to my door

Hi Nathan,

Good looking stock. I do wonder though if the lack of taper is an issue. Are you happy with the taper or do you intend to cut them back a bit. Please dont take this the wrong way as these trees are a damn site better than what I have. If they were mine I would be so hesitant to cut them given the many years of growth they already have but I would feel if I didnt I might never see the full potential from these trees. I would ponder this for such a long time though. What are your plans?

The taper in the bottom half of the trees is pretty good, it is hard to see in the photos, the plan is to chop them a bit and then into grow boxes for a few years to fatten up a bit

Looks good nathan. Good movement in the trunk. The taper will come in the growing boxes. It to tell the scale. What size pots are they in?

Sound good Nathan,

I am sure they will make exceptional trees in a few years. I know what you mean about photos. Its hard to show the real tree isnt it.

I would assume these trees are in 300mm pots? Nice big stock if that is the case.

I am looking at a 8 to 10 year time frame to develop these trees, I am in no hurry

yes they are in 300mm pots, I have chopped, wired and styled them, but a good 2cm of Dynamic Lifter on them and now will leave them till next year before putting them into grow boxes as a restyle and repot in a short time frame may be just a bit much for them to handle all at once. Will post some photos over the weekend of the chop and restyle

Nathan,
this is excellent stock. I would be working on developing secondaries on the primary side branches so you have lots of options to cut back to, to achieve a great taper when you are ready to style

Hi Nathan
Great stock that you have there. Mason has a lovely nursery and he is a really nice fellow. His nursery displays his passion for bonsai.

Hey great looking stock. I don't have an artistic bone in my body but even i can easily see a tree in there right now....until i get to the top..then my abilities struggle :reading: . Should be something spectacular even after just a few years.

Regards
Rudy
