Purchased this one last year Collecters Corner... Thanks again Bruce... Got its first training pot today. It stands soil to tip 240mm and 80mm across the base, thats not the nebari. So by others standards it is 3:1. When im finished and exposed the nebari, by my standards 2:1. OH and still not sumo This is gonna be a rippa!!! too

This is the tree that came home with chinese foliage, dropped it and then grew hokkeido foliage When i inquired with Bruce as to whats going on. He thought the grower might have used a growth retardent for smaller folliage. We will now see this coming Spring as to what the deal really is...

apparently hokaido and seiju are actually chinese elms. Seiju actually started as a mutant growth on a chinese elm.

my brothers hokaido elm constantly grows chinese elm foliage from one spot on the trunk. he is forever cutting it off but it keeps growing back and it grows so strongly it slows downt eh groth of the rest of the tree!

i was confused with the first pic too!

interesting that it has gone to seiju/hokkaido leaf size and growth pattern. if it is a growth retardent that has been used it can take a long time for it to exit the tree's system, note- that is what i have heard, never experienced, read into it a little aswell, it could of possibly been the bonzabud that can be brought in hydro shops.

anyways back to the tree im keen to see this one when it fills out and becomes a nice broom variant style tree, which i resume ya going for with styling a deciduous tree like a deciduous tree

Jamie i was told bonsabud was used and it only last one season. The tree has still put on growth and the roots were as healthy and abundant as! Now we will see. Thanks mate yes like a deciduous...

Mario thanks mate, yeah im not worried by the scars, just not sure i want to heal them yet... we will see.

Time for an update on this one. I have just repotted into a PK pot so the last 2 yrs it has just been growing and getting styled. At the moment it is still sporting some of last years folige with new buds bursting all over the place. The nebari is looking real good however it was getting dark last night and no time to photograph. No time to style, still quite a few trees to get through. Will defoliate and wire mid summer. Just let it find its legs in the new pot. Yes foliage has managed to stay smallish, but that could be the defoliating. It is definately growing healthy.

Very nice pot Antonio! I think it compliments the tree very well! Good job on the selection. I like where the tree is headed as well, but if Italian is beautiful mate, that 'groundcover'??????? Too same'ish mate! You need to go for something that allows that pot and that tree to really speak to us! That gravel matches the pot and bark too close to let 'em sing.
