Calling all Elm professionals!!

Hi Gang,

I hope you are all well.

I have noticed this black stuff on almost all my new growth on my Corky Bark Elm tree. Please guys can you shed some light on my otherwise dark tree

Is it a fungus? maybe from some insects? I have recently purchased some eco friendly pest oil and some fungicde...may come in handy...

Recently in this same topic area I posted a thread about this black stuff attacking my other tree also!! Would it be related? The other black stuff on my pear tree just hit the tips of the thorns and the tips of my leaves...but this time on my elm it looks almost soft n mushy and is attacking new growth...I have also noticed black patches on the trunk but this could have already been there and im just looking extra hard now...

Im thinking maybe its Black Spot? but its too hard to tell as the leaves are not open and I cant see any 'spots' that you would normally see with black spot infected plants...

Great! Thank yo Mr Legg...ok ants were crawling about 2 days ago....il check it thoughtfully now for any other bugs etc and get back to you very shortly.

Well Mr Legg, you may have hit the bullseye....what do you think??

These tiny red dots have been there since I got the tree (2 months ago) not sure why but I didnt think anything of it...maybe it was my lack of knowledge or my trust in people (who would sell me a dying tree right??).

Never experienced red spider mite so it will give me something to pursue now...but yeah would be happy if you take a look at these please...I can see these dots in big pathces across the trunk and in crevices I can see a mixture of red and white dots...I hope you can see what I mean on these pics...

Have you treated this tree yet Billa ? You can use Rogor or lime sulphur to kill the mites. Good luck

Helllllllo Monsieur Bougy Fan!!

I sprayed all of my tress a bit over a week ago..but I have not treated this Elm specifically yet.

I just need to be 100% sure it is spider mite? and it is right? When I first saw these red dots I tried to scrub them off with my trunk brush and some did come off but a lot didnt...and I cant see them crawling!!

So please just confirm for me they are spider mite and let me know at what strength/ratio to use the lime sulphur..

I can't confirm it is that. Mix lime sulphur at 20mls per litre of water. I would do it anyway - it won't hurt the tree and a lot of guys do all their deciduous trees every winter as a precaution.

elms do not like systemic insecticides, they will drop their leaves, it looks like die back as the wound was not cleaned just my
