I.D. Metrosideros
This is a pic of a branch of Metrosideros (N.Z. Christmas Tree, Puhtukawa) That is growing and flowering at the moment in my area. It's been planted as a landscape tree in a new easate about three years old. Does anyone know what species or cultivar it is? The flowers and foliage look to be very suitable for Bonsai. Flowers are orange / red, leaves are glossy dark green. I suspect that it is Metro. umbellata or a cultivar of it. The shiny thing in the pic is not a UFO, or a stimata of some deity that appeared on my mouse pad, just a reflecting $2 coin.

Re: I.D. Metrosideros
Looks a bit like FIJI Fire. Not sure of the botanical name

Re: I.D. Metrosideros
Thanks Squizzy, I think you have nailed it. I've always seen Fiji Fire as small plants grown for the red new foliage and didn't connect the two when I saw it in flower today. See link below and thanks again
