[ID] Unknown stump

Post by OwnLeeOne »

Hey bonsai folks...I dug this up a few weeks ago from the side of the house. I thought it was a sandpaper fig but the new growth doesn't have the rough texture. Anyone know what it is?

Yep. 100% Chinese Hackberry - Celtis.
Always we hope someone else has the answer.

Agree with Hackimoto & kvan64

I'd say with a high degree of certainty you have a celtis stump, they are very fast growers and nearly impossible to kill.

Good thread with some examples viewtopic.php?f=104&t=3461&hilit=broom+ ... n&start=30

That's good news...thanks for all your responses. Not bad for a find in my own yard. Looking foward to working with it.

Cheers.
