Japanese maple progression
Origin: Nursery grown stump in foam box. Branches worked since 2010 from scratch. The tree has alot of rot at the back which Im working on. Its the reason why nobody wanted to buy it and just sat at the nursery for around 3 years. Despite the rot, there is alot of potential The front is nice:

Re: Japanese Maple
Hi Edward Scissorhands,
Is this particular tree a Trevor McComb maple from Bonsai Art? I saw from the ad on the back of the Assoc. of Aust. Bonsai Club's Bonsai Magazine that Trevor uses styrofoam boxes for his on-plantings.
Cheers,
Brad Jackson a.k.a Brad75

Re: Japanese Maple
@ Ant, I will take another pic when more leaves are out. But with some sort of background for you, maybe in a month time. The tree is heavy and I havent cleared any space around my junk where a background is available.
@ Brad, the tree is from Ray Nesci Bonsai nursery, he ground grows them for a number of years, digs them up, puts it in a foam box for a year or two and sells them at his nursery.

Definitely a lot of potential.Edward Scissorhand wrote:The tree has alot of rot at the back which Im working on. Its the reason why nobody wanted to buy it and just sat at the nursery for around 3 years. Despite the rot, there is a lot of potential
I'd clean up all the rot, seal it up, cover it in fert and let one of the leaders at the top grow for a couple of years.
I have found letting trees grow really strongly is one of my best tools in bonsai.
