Malus floribunda finally flowering

Post by cre8ivbonsai »

Purchased back in May this year at the BSV sale day, I have been eagerly awaiting its bloom... and now that I know it "works" (flowers) it will be repotted into this special edition Lorraine Simpson pot at the appropriate time next year :D the glaze has a multitude of differing colours that change with the rotation of the pot so that it could suit a variety of trees

Well it didn't go into that pot after, as this one suited it even better. :tu:

Definitely glad I did repot as I found (and exterminated) 6 big, juicy curl grubs

I'll see if I can get a few more photos as the rest of the flowers open up :fc:

Any tips on how to keep the flowers going to develop into fruit? :lost: Do they require cross-pollination with another tree or do the bees take care of that?

I am pretty sure the bees will take care of it. Mine fruits every year. You will have to take the majority off the tree anyway as it will drain your tree way to much. Lovely tree. Dimensions :?: I love the Lorraine Simpson pot. :tu2:

Thanks Bodhi, that lavender farm across the way probably helps with the concentration of bees up your way ;) yeah a one or two little apples would be great :fc: measurements: 36cm from pot rim to top flower bud, 8cm diameter at the base of the trunk. Yep gotta love Aussie handmade bonsai pots :aussie: not sure what's going to make it into this pot now :lost:

Update of this cutie in close to full bloom :tu: She was kept inside last night and today given the strong winds, and I wanted to get a photo before all the petals got blown off so I could enjoy, record and share, unfortunately I can't share the beautiful parfume these flowers emit ... now she's back out in the elements

Well here we are again, even earlier Spring and nearly as windy. Anyway, thought I'd share this year's bloom before they get blown away

Very good display, and nice photography too. The tree is improving with age, well done and I like it a lot.

Thanks Meagi, it has certainly started to be rewarding, I'm hoping to see a piece of fruit on it this year :fc: ... and yes Floribuna's pink and white flowers are very nice :tu:

Thanks Watto, the photography was a bit of a rush job, but turned out ok (after tweaking the blacks/contrast in PS), outside at night with flash on (which I wouldn't normally recommend) but time constraints lead to adaptation, and the flowering cycle of these trees (1-2 weeks max) leaves a short window to capture their display. My trimming process is mostly a light trim through the growing season just to avoid long leggy growth, and a final trim late summer/early autumn, seems to be working well and allowing it to fill out nicely.

Thanks both for your kind comments,
Ryan
