Ash, a pair would be great, does the patina match, you know they are very good at faking it?

Bebbas, Lets see it ;)

Ray, you can have the honour of putting one of your trees in it & I will take care of them :tu:

You & me both Ken, It has to be the oldest pot I have ever seen & the only one with a metal rim! Whoever buys it is getting a bargain...

The glaze quality on these early Chinese pots is deep and rich and exceptional - photos don't show it. If you get the chance, NSW Art Gallery has a collection of 13th-14th century celadons that are just amazing. Modern potters can't really copy them - it seems that the old kilns were very inefficient, it took a week (not 8 or 10 hours) to reach temperature, and they had to hold it as high as they could go for a day or so just to get the glazes to melt at all. It wasn't glass chemicals melting into liquid, but slowly sagging mush that created these colours - you can see the sag at the bottom of the $60,000 pot. Wonderful stuff, but only for royalty then, and the astonishingly rich now.
Ah well. Damn. Etc.
