This little Plum has not been in training long but this year it has excelled with its flowering. Once it develops some more branching it will be a stunner. I thought i would post it before pruning as it needs a lot of lower branching and i have fingers crossed a hard prune will stimulate it. It is for sale so PM me if you have an interest. Pickup only.

Looks to be Elvins. How far back are you hoping for buds? and how far back will you cut it?

Thanks for the confirmation Gavin. Pretty sure it is "elvins" the cupped flowers give it away. It is a bugger to backbud though. I have made the decision (unless sold) to prune it back to the first off branches and see what happens. I have not paid a lot of attention to this tree and we will see what happens.

What is your view of working on and displaying trees that have been trunk grafted? the reason I ask is that at my local nursery, they have several small JBP that look 'slightly' grafted... still not really sure though.... and several other pines with great big ugly grafts visible like you'd see for some stone fruit trees

does it only come down to appearance, or in your opinion is it just not 'kosher'?

Hi Stew, i have several trees (collected) that were grafted, my Almond for one. If the graft is good why not use it

Sometimes you can luck onto some excellent grafted material. If it is not so great but the material is good you can always do a little carving to alleviate the problem.
