Inspiring post Mr. D!
Wondering if the roots will 'melt' on to the rock or just grow around it?

There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.

Hi bodhidharma,
I like the strings that you use to tie it. It will just break down and absorbed by the soil.
I like this project very much. I think in a few short years, you can enjoy the top portion of the tree first
Best regards.

Re: Now..heres a long term project.
Thanks Daiviet. I agree, i think the top will fill out nicely in a short period but from experience, it'll be 6-8 years before i can get it into a Bonsai pot. Gives me plenty of time to source one

Re: Now..heres a long term project.
It has been three and a half years when i did this and this year i will have a look at it's root system and see what is going on. Hard to get a handle on its progress without taking it out of its pot. I now have a plan for the branching and some will come off. If the roots have adhered to the rock then i might consider a pot for it. I am excited
A few angle shots so you can see distance from rock etc.

Awesome job sir. I personally like the first of the maybe fronts. The branch structure is more visible without the rock in the background or maybe rotate just a few more degrees clockwise? My

Hi Bodhi,
I also like the first of your maybe fronts.
The trunk curves are interesting and there is some pleasing textural interplay and colour harmony between bark and rock, from that angle whether or not the tree is attached to the rock is less important. The trunk and rock have better, more unified relationship in the 1st maybe than in the other maybe front which to me looks like the tree is an added accessory. The foliage outline of the tree is potentially good in the first maybe, the apex gets outside the line of the rock, in number 2 the peak of the rock dominates the potential apex of the tree.
What are your thoughts on the 2 fronts?
Cheers,
Mojo

Thanks Don, I will include you in my reply to Mojo.
it is a fun project but deceivingly heavy.

The jury is out for me at the moment as i think it will change a lot once it is out of the pot. There will be another 150mm or so that will come into play, but from the photo the "first maybe" is it, although in real 3d the other front is better. cannot wait to see it out.Mojo Moyogi wrote:What are your thoughts on the 2 fronts?
