Bit of hard yakka.

Dug this beast out of my folks yard, my back is sore, i have blisters and calluses, bitten by a centipede and an unknown spider, green ants, sun burnt, uggghhhhhh not sure if it was worth it but here are some pics anyway.


In the ground it didnt look like a hard task, but once i started digging i realised that every time it had been chopped back it just pushed more and more roots. 4 hours worth of digging involved.




Eventually this bit broke off, so i flat bottomed it in an effort to propagate it [hopefully]




Here's the main tree, iv left it to soak so i can take a chainsaw to it and find a pot big enough for it.




Might be able to make 3 trees out of the one huge stump, so more pics at a later date.

I would prune most of that growth off but wouldnt bother defoliating. If you cant find a pot big enough use the clamshell its currently soaking in, just be sure to put a few drain holes in first....

Yer i dont like my chances of finding a nice big pot on my budget of $0.00, so i might have to make a grow box or see if gareth doesnt have a styro big enough.

Thanks for the tip, i was going to defoliate to determine what i was going to keep in the way of branches or if i can split it down the middle possibly. Being the noxious weed it is i could probably get away with pruning all the growth of it and start again.

Thanks Dr Squizz, this tree had been lopped and had a few doses of monsanto's finest and is still kicking i think it should come good.

4 hours of digging is dedication in a nutshell. Hopefully this piece will be worth the digging and be transformed into a Bonsai you're satisfied with.

Looking around my benches at this years repot, and the trees I've often wondered "what I'm doing with this?" are starting to reward me with a picture that just gets better with each year of perseverance.

That's definately a large trunk. Not sure what you are going to do with it but it should be fun.
