Great buxus mate.
If that is all the branches you are taking off I would tip prune it so it will branch out, as they are growing now.
But I love what you have done so far

Hi Mark - good to hear from you mate. I'll probably go to half the height of the leader i'd say. I still haven't done anything with that Mugo yet. May wait till i get more advice and direction at the next club meet. I was a bit disappointed to see only one comment on ourToowoomba Bonsai annual show!
G'day Chad - Thanks for the comment. when you say tip prune, do you mean like 1-2 cms off? I know it should back bud really well or take back even further?
Cheers guys

Re: New buxus
A good start and you should be getting some wire on it now. Be careful when wiring as they have an annoying habit of pulling away from the trunk when you pull them down. Go slowly, pull down a little and go to the next branch and repeat. then go over the tree again, let it rest and then again. Bit by bit. Box are also slow growing (here anyway) so take your time. I would also leave the bottom, large branch, for a sacrifice.

Re: New buxus
By tip pruning I mean just pinching the ends out. But looking at it more I would take it down to the thick part of the trunk and reduce all the branches to proportion.
But that's me.
You have a great base to work with. I really like it.
I loaded mine up with dynamic lifter and some nitro sol and I have new growth all over mine. I will try to post some pics soon but mine is a long way off.

I'm coming home at the end of the month Stewart if you want to do some work on the mugo, a few of the club members will be coming over.
