LELE's 1st carving lesson

Post by anttal63 »

me and gab hung out yesterday doin bonsai. while i worked on my pine i gave him the assignment of carving this lump of collected desert ash and hopefully making a tree of it in future. its the first time he has ever held a dremel in his hands and took to it like a duck to water. we have done the rough out and need him to get back here and finsh it. fine detail, some burning and brushing and then to preserve it with a wood hardner. yep gab im leaving it for you to do 8-) .

ps as soon as done it will get a little wire and a pot. :D

eventually  we got to the burning bit. covered the apex and back branch with wet towels and torched the deadwood with the blue part of the flame, so as to do what i needed quickly. if you use a pro oxy set up you will be able to get the blue flame very hot and fine in size with the correct jets. this allows you to direct the burn more specifically. some cleaning with a steel brush and burl on the drem. this is what we got. lele well done fella you have achieved in your first time what some may not in a life time. the gift is yours and all you have to do now is more of it in order to really hone it home. ;) 8-) :D

Was great carving, but the tree was too straight and tall. So it was time to take its next incarnation. Chopped, block carved ready to be hollowed next year. Broom variation in style. Wired and repotted also. :D 8-) ;)

Nice carving. How hard is the wood of ash tree? I can't wait to carve mine soon.
Cheers,
