65th Myrtleford Show

Post by alpineart »

Well its on again and this years will be the best ever as far as Bonsai go :tu: . The local Horticultural Show has in the past been reluctant to change :lost: . Over the last decade or more i have been entering and displaying Bonsai or works in progress to create further interest in the Art of Bonsai itself  . Last year there were several entrants and the committee was impressed with the display both myself and my Son put on for the benefit of the show goers ;) . I have continually asked the powers to be to address an issue regarding this section as it was under Pot Plants Aggregate not Bonsai . This year it comes under Bonsai with 6 separate sections :D .
1 /Best Single Trunk Tree
2 /Best Group or Multi Trunk
3 /Best Native
4 /Best Cascade
5 /Best Flowering
6 /Best Miniture under 25centimeters

This year i have the support of members from the Albury Wodonga Bonsai Club so it will be an impressive display of Bonsai :worship: . While change comes about slowly i refused to give up requesting every year that the section have the correct name and i did ask that a couple of different section or classification of Bonsai be added 8-) . While it may not be a Bonsai show as such , close to 10, 000 people visit the show every year so its definitely a good place to showcase our art  . Unfortunately i have very little to enter , i regularly put on a display of Tree's and works in progress . This year has been a disaster as far a caring for my plants and most have suffered .Come to think of it i haven't prepared a tree , better get out there now and tidy something up  .

It will be good to see the quality of entrants improve as my effort will be meager at the best . Good luck to all who support this local show and remember "Winner never quit and Quitters never win" :aussie:

Now all i need is a good Photographer to take some pics . Hope to have an update of two come Sunday

Cheers Alpineart

Excellent work Alpine and the local shows are great place to showcase our art to different people.

Up here the "Castle Hill show" is the same. We have a Bonsai section in it and always has great trees on display and Ray Nesci is there all weekend doing Demos.

Hi KC , Mate local shows are a good thing especially in the country . If i was fit enough i would take a big monster juniper down and play all day , that would raise a few eyebrows .

Hi Fiveoffive , mate unfortunately its only on for Saturday 27th , i have just come back from setting up a display , something i have done for years now . Trying to find some material to fit the categories , alas i can't find anything worthwhile to fill all the classes but as usual i will give it my all where possible .

Cheers Guys . Alpine

I've missed the Myrtleford sow for the last 10 years due to BSV and Canberra show committments but somehow this year there is no clash - and Alpine has arranged an extension of bonsai categories :tu: Have already loaded up 2 or 3 for each class. Dropped off my entries in Jams, pickles and preserves today. Nothing real special as I have not been competing for quite a few years but might be some good enough to impress the judges.
Need to pick flowers and produce early in the morning then get down to Myrtleford in time to enter and stage it all before 8:30 am.

Hi Shibui , mate appreciate your effort and support , glad the other bonsai commitments haven't clashed . I'll be down there this morning to get a few pics . I'm certain i'll will be impressed , while setting up i was approached by numerous members of the public who actually have bonsai . I told all , there would be a display to make any Rural show proud thanks to the Albury -Wodonga Bonsai Club members who were participating . I could only find 4 ordinary tree's , so it will be great to see all the classes filled , and i'm sure your entries will stir the hearts and spirits of the visitors and judges alike . :hooray:

Cheers Alpine .

Well its all over bar the shouting . It has definitely been the best representation of Bonsai i have seen here in Myrtleford  . Many , Many thanks to Niel - Shibui for the unprecedented support in all the categories without his entries this year would have been a disaster :worship: , and to all who entered and assisted in the making of this event such a success this year  .

My apologies for the quality of the pictures , i had planned on returning this afternoon to take more , unfortunately it was too late  . I'm certain many of the show goers would have been suitably impressed as i know members of the show committee most certainly were :hooray: . Well i had better find some stock to bring up to the standard presented here , for next years event , if i start now i just might make it .

Cheers Alpineart

I had a great day at the show today. Caught up with lots of old friends and enjoyed the sights and sounds of the country show.
Entered veges and honey in Farm produce section and won a few.
Entered flowers, potted plants and bonsai in horticulture and ended up with 8 first and 7 second - scooped the native classes! but what would the judge know? She wanted to disallow the PJ fig from best native bonsai because she thought it was not native????
Entered jams and preserves and ended up with most successful in that section :hooray: even though many were not really up to real show standard.

Well done Alpine on your display of bonsai to lift the profile in this area and for pestering the committee enough over a few years to get the bonsai classes enlarged.

Sounds like you cleaned up Shibui!

No wonder you had such a good day!

Well done for all making the effort.
I'd love to see some more detailed photo's if there are any around.

Cheers,

Hi Fiveoffive, mate the Trident maple group won First prize , it an absolute ripper :hooray: . Congrats to Shibui

Hi kc , it was a very good section this year and it has set the bar to another height for next year . :aussie:

Hi Anttal63 , thanks mate , a great achievement to all involved :tu: . I did manage a First and Second so I'm stoked  , and my mistake in the native section is a valuable lesson learned to this amateur  . Hopefully the Judges now realize that P.J figs are native too :palm: .

Cheers Guys Alpine
