My Chinese Quince was defoliated (partially) and wired this week a slow progression but there are definite improvements

Looking good Gerard. If i might suggest one thing i would let the lower branches grow out a fair bit to thichen them up. At the moment they look a little thin for my eyes. Appart fromt that i think you are on a good track! I am kicking myself that i didnt buy this one myself.

Did you get flowers this spring? I had one on mine. Hopefully next year i will get a full flush of blooms.

Joe.

No flowers this year,
I have taken a new approach by defoliating later in the season and leaving lots of the interior leaves in the hope of developing better ramification.
I am usure about the first branch, perhaps it is a bit too low. I will let the first two branches extend.

Hi Gerard, i think the first two left hand branches are to low. As they put size on they will detract from the right hand branch/second trunk? which is an integral part of the tree. I guess they could be left on to help thicken the trunk more but it already has good size. You could let the second one really extend and use it for a graft on the top right hand where it needs a branch. Just my :2c:

Beautiful trunk line and taper.
The bark looks great as well..

Really want to get my hands on one of these...

Thanks for sharing Gerard.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
