It is looking very healthy Matt. Has it been sprayed with oil or something?

Looks like a fun tree to work on :tu:

Hacker... anytime :tounge:

Brett, Its a tree that I always enjoy talking to during my daily rounds. The leaves are natural for this species and very quickly show if they are not happy. It has really kicked on in the organic mix its planted in, sometime in spring I will rake all the old soil from around the core of the rootball & backfill with organic as well.

I finally got in & removed all the spent flowers shortenening the whole branch to within about 1" of the nearest fork, I also removed a couple wayward branches in the apex, I left the tail full as it has a few flower buds yet to open. Heres hoping for good budding & backbudding as it looks very sparse at the moment.

It had some spot flowering over winter but is now putting on its spring show. This morning I attached a guy wire to elevate one of the branches in the cascade, still not sure if I like it or not.
100_5434rz.jpg
Back budding has been strongest in the upper parts of the tree (as expected) but overall good budding has been achieved thruout the tree since its heavy trim.
100_5427rz.jpg
A rare glimpse from the back of the cascade showing its lax structure. If i can maintain strength in the falling branch I will try to work on correcting this over time.
100_5431rz.jpg
Half way down the cascade has popped a really well placed branch that will help to give more volume over time.
100_5432rz.jpg
Enjoy, I do :D

With almost every bud open I had to share.. With the ramification of a few more years it should just keep getting better.

With flowering over I have repeated autumns hard prune of all the flowering stems, I left the very tail to help keep sap flowing down but really have no idea how it will go. There are a few backbuds on the cascade branches that were shortened 6mths ago, its been given a new dose of slow release fert so it should start pumping more.
100_5644rz.jpg
The straight line that runs thru the trunk & first part of the cascade branch has always bothered me but I was never game to try and do anything about it... No more... I have a rough idea of how to achieve my aim & will update with pics when the time comes.

Thanks Mal,
I just have a cheap(free actually) Kodak Easyshare, point & click jobby. A couple of tips I have picked up along the way...

The best results using natural light are on overcast days or when a cloud obstructs the direct sunlight. (This tree sits on the eastern side of a mulberry that afforded afternoon shade to take the most recent pic.)
Use a pale coloured background (tan or blue) instead of white or black.
Stand further back & get more background in the picture than needed and crop later, this avoids missing tops or branch ends. (This can be hard in small spaces or with really big trees)
Take multiple shots & pick the best of them, 3 pictures from the same spot using the same camera etc will all be slightly different.

I still have alot to learn as far as taking pics & even more so setting up displays, it never ends... love this thing called bonsai :reading:
