Hey guys I was thinking of digging this conifer out of my back yard but wanted to do a little research first any help would be greatly appreciated

Yep certainly looks like a Hinoki to me.

That is likely to make a really nice bonsai given time and effort.
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful
