when to collect casuarina

Hi Everyone

when is the best time to collect a casuarina and what aftercare is needed , i've found some nice ones growing in a riverbed but am not sure when to collect them

For SA, NOW !!! Just make sure you have roots close in to your trunk and after care will be easy. In shade very open mix and lots of watering. :tu:

Anytime they are actively growing I reckon, but having said that I have only had one attempt out of be sucessful.

get lots of roots ( particularly fine feeder ones) and when you pot up, fold them into a pot rather than cut them off. Lack of roots os the only thing I can think why mine failed. Teh one that survived came out with most of it roots intact as a flat pad

Hi Everyone

:cool: thanks for the advice guys i'm off to go and dig them up, should i wait till next season to start wiring or are they like olives that you can one go to town on them when you dig them up. The other aussie native i'm interested in is the paperbark . should i start with nursery stock or can a person collect them , thanks for any advice.

I would let them recover for a year before doing anything with them
Paperbark are very collectible :-) Not a lot of root needed, but keep them quite moist
Collecting now is good too

As ken sais take it slow with the cassa's, they will tell you when you can go at them. Paperbarks no worries too for you. Adelaide is on the hotter side and that has lots to do with it. Besides if Craig does, anyone can ! ;)

Hi Everyone
thanks heaps for the advice, am off to go and see if i can find some paperbarks that i can dig up as well. Going to be a busy time in the next little while as am also looking at some olives that look pretty good :tu2:
