Mick,
repotting is done about every 2 years for most of my larger trees. Likely they could go longer but why take the chance.

Now that is one very gnarly Fig, well done Gerry. Very thick primaries look good but I would preferr slightly longer branchlets I think.

Bonsai4ever,
I agree would like some more fine branch taper. Perhaps another 4-5 years time, I hope.

Re: Defoliated my Rainforest Fig
You are getting nice twiggy growth on your Ficus - here my indigenous Ficus species are so slow to give me the twiggy growth I need!
Good work!

Re: Defoliated my Rainforest Fig
Lennard thanks. What indigenous figs do you find tough to get twiggy?

Re: Defoliated my Rainforest Fig
Jerry, the problem is mostly with Natalenesis and Bourkei. Cutting back and defoliation I mostly get one or two new twigs going. I sometimes wonder if I must not do more rootwork on my Ficus because I get massive root systems on these species but very little top growth. It seems that the roots as a storage organ for these trees are more important than top growth because some of the ficus species here go without rain for 5 months sometimes.

Re: Defoliated my Rainforest Fig
Lennard,
that is interesting. I am working with burkei and also natalensis but my experience with them is pretty limited. So far they seem to act pretty normally to defoliation and bud-pinching. Are your
trees in extra large containers, under-fed, or in resting mode for long periods of time?
My trees are kept under warm conditions 365 days a year and although they slow down for the winter their progress seems pretty normal.
