A great thread and an amazing Bonsai Grant.

It must be like a first born, no wonder it is your favourite. You would be devistated if anything were to happen to it.

Nice and strong Grant!!!

I just did my largest JBP this afternoon, and we did some of Mick's this weekend, what date are you aiming for? what technique are you applying?

Needle thinning still to come on mine though.

Hi scott,

Mick said you were going down to help. I hope it went well.

Anyhow i did the decandle on this pine on Saturday. I cut off all new growth(or at least 97 or 98%) leaving a small stub up to about 5mm long or back into last years needles occasionally if the portion was too elongated.

I will now with hold fertilizer to keep the needles and internodal length under control; certainly both Boon and Ryan advocate this.

Hi Scott,

Got the needles nice and short this last year and gave it to Yusuke to overhaul today. He spent all day on it and is only half way through.

Hahaha...yeah pics or it didn't happen!

Maybe a before pic? I think my large JBP was done a little early, the needles this year were a bit too long. :palm:

Ditto!

Must be very satisfying having such a nice tree that you grew from seed yourself :tu:

Sorry, hadn't taken any pics part way through but here they are now.

The lowest branch on the right got bent down more than I had it and the lower portions of the tree are wired and placed.

Looking good grant. The separation of the pads is really nice and the first branch in its new position is covering the mild revere taper. Nice work!

What was used instead of raffia on the first right branch that was bent down? Is that electrical tape or self amalgamating tape? Or something entirely different
