Pjf shohin ( 6 months progress )

Post by Jasonb »

Hi all,

Just thought I'd share my little pjf with you all. It has been six months since I received it, all I have done is put it into a bonsai pot ( no root work carried out ) and defoliated once around one and a half months ago. The defoliation forced some good backbudding which will become my lower branching eventually.
Here is the before after photo set.

Not a major difference other than the smaller leaves and a little bit of structure, this one I think is slowly becoming one of my favourites.
All comments and virts welcome. Would love to see where others think this tree could go.

I think the direction you take it is up to you but I like the progress you have made for 6months in a bonsai pot!!! My only advice would be a bigger pot!

Jason ,

Good so far.
With my PJ figs I sit them in a tray of stones so that is moist all the time. This encourages the roots to push out the drain holes. This helps the tree put on size without having to re pot. In my environment(short growing season) my figs come inside during the winter and I still have them in a tray of stones so they continue to grow over the winter period. When they are moved from inside to outside and vis versa they get the external roots trimmed.

Regards,

Peter

Cheers for that Peter,

I will give the tray a go. And as for a bigger pot? I don't have any left :( that will be my next shopping trip. I may try a root over rock with this one as it gets a bit bigger too. Still not 100% on that one.

I'll be sure to keep you all posted.
