The heat is on!
Adelaide reached 45 degrees at 4pm today, with more hot weather to come next week. I'm just glad I'm on holidays from work so I can keep a closer eye on my trees.
How is everyone else fairing in this heat?

Just a lazy 34.5 here, being in the mountains it will get down to below 20 tonight which is perfect weather for sitting in the pool and drinking an Asahi or 3 and getting a comfortable night's sleep

Cheers,

Re: The heat is on!
Hi Guys close to 43 here and over 41 yesterday , Radiant heats a lot higher , going to have a big water bill cooling things off constantly . Dreading the thought of 48 we had a few years ago . Actually hit 44.2 degrees at 5.25 pm
Cheers Alpine

Re: The heat is on!
Seems a lot of the country is receiving a good dose of summer at the moment. We've back up to 41 here on Monday.
I hope no one has lost any trees this summer.

Re: The heat is on!
Just a mild 43 here today I decided to get rid of the garage door and add a wall, The trees need to toughen up like me ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Re: The heat is on!
It's even hot up here though not quite Adelaide or Perth temps. I'm keeping a sharper watch on the trees to pick the early signs of dehydration. The root over rock tridents all got a bit dry yesterday- some just wilted, a few with dead tips on the new shoots but no real harm. As well as the tree sucking moisture out and evaporation from the mix, rocks also acts like a wick, sucking moisture out of the mix and giveing a greater surface for the moisture to evaporate from so any rock planting -root over rock, root confined to rock, slab plantings, saikei, etc- will dry out faster than those without.
I still haven't put up the shadecloth and the trees in full sun still seem to be healthy but this weather will be a real test of how much sun is good for bonsai and how good my watering is.

Perhaps, we should dose them up with cement and normal fertilizers to harden them up

Re: The heat is on!
Had a little thermometer I bought down in Tassie about 20 years ago, out on my back deck and it popped the top off in Sydney`s North yesterday and it goes up to 50c , I guess it is buggered now as all this red stuff came out, and they reckon it is going to be hotter on Tuesday, Phew
