Special Little Trees for Special Little People

Post by Nathan »

With the Birth of our second child this week, I wanted to get started on a little project for her as I did for my son when he was born, so this afternoon we went for a walk down the growing on area and I choose a nice little JBP for her. 4 days old and she is already getting in to Bonsai

As mentioned I did the same for my son when he was born and I am taking photos every year on their birthdays with the tree, the plans is for them to get it as a 21st present.

The tree is one of our stock plants I actually de candled this tree in the first week of December as a bit of an experiment, I have post a couple of photos of the growth and the new buds, this has accrued in 20 days.

Just wondering is anyone else doing trees for their kids???

Cheers

Congrats on your new additions; your child and the JBP.

Yes, I have several trees for my two daughters (weeping willow, JBP, two Japanese maples, willow fig and a Port Jackson fig) and for a while I started fig bonsais for my friends who had children. However, as it turns out my friends are breeders I simply got too many little trees that I had no time to work on; and killing some of them with extreme root procedures didn't help.

Cheers
Shane

Bonsai was supposed to keep me away from the computer; so I got a smart phone to take outside to my trees.
Bonsai was meant to keep me away from the computer.

I am Nathan,
Here is Bailey with the callistemon that I was given by the hospital when he was born. It was only a tube stock then so It is just as old as he is.

I have a thread on the tree here

It's too bad your in such a hurry cause the stories I could tell you, Bushels and baskets of stories, hole crates full of stories. But if you can spare a moment I will tell you one story.

Hi Guys

It is great to hear that others are doing Bonsai for their kids as well, I think it is such a great way to get a whole new generation involved and also something that they can possible hand down to their children.

Cheers

Its a lovely sentiment.

1 Slighly negative aspect.... I just watched a black pine slowly die that my father gave me. Its a horrible process and places a lot of pressure on the recipient. Whilst I still don't know why, I suspect it was through trying harder more fussing, water etc.

Hi Soda,

Sorry to hear about your pine, I have lost a couple over the past few years and they do go slowly.

I used to fuss over them now I treat them them mean and they have never looked or grown better

Today, I had a little time so I decided to do the initial styling on the JBP for our little girl who has just turned 6 weeks old

I will need to promote some back budding on the lower branch to bring it closer to the trunk, but hey I have 20 odd years to do it so it should be fine
