Dybamic lifter....... Magots?

Post by Gareth »

Hi Guys,

whilst waiting for my worm farm to rpoduce another round of castings for fert i have been using up a bag of dynamic lifter.

The other day i was busting up the crust of broken down pellets on the surface and in the first 1/2 and inch or so of soil/DL mix i saw what looked like maggots. Could it be? or am i likely looking at curl grubs?

They aure as hell moved like a maggot? anyone else had this experience?

Dynamic lifetr is poo. Bush flies breed in poo so it is possible the maggots you have are the larvae of our little, sticky, black bush flies. They don't usually bother when there is only a small amount of DL on the soil because it dries out each day but when it is applied thickly like for fast growing figs and does not dry out they often start to breed.

There are other white grubs and worms that also feed in decaying organic matter so could also be any number of other species.

My vote is for maggots. It they don't bother you, they wont bother you. :D My figs have usually got a nest of maggots in them, well the DL on top that is  Probably should do something about the fly problem, but I'm lazy. ;)

Seriously, other than the flys, the maggots wont have any effect on your trees.
