Mexican White Cedar

Hi everyone
i just got hold of a mexican white cedar. Has anyony worked with these before. If so when is the best time to do basic prune and repot?

Here is the Mexican White Cedar(at least that is what the label says) From what i can tell it has a nice trunk and root system. I think it could make a nice bonsai but im not really sure where to start. Can someone please help.

Well, i dont know a lot about this tree and dont know if it is a cedar. Not like what i have seen anyway. I can help on its progress though and i would open it up a bit foliage wise to see what is in there and give it a good feed. You would be safe repotting next spring and do the root work. I imagine someone more learned will chime in with the i.d.

OK thanks. The name on the pot is "cupressus lusitanica " and it comes up as a Mexican White Cedar on google....so im not sure. it look like it may have potential though so ill keep a progress report for any one that is interested.

"Cupressus" is not cedar, but cypress. That's an important distinction, because their growth habits are not quite the same. For instance, the cypress doesn't generally backbud like the cedar does, so you have to watch how you prune.
