Bonsai Wire Holder

Post by Paul W »

P1302658.JPG
Hi Guys
Over Christmas I made myself a wire holder, I had seen a few around and thought about it and I thought I would go a bit different from the others I had seen
I have made it so I can lift the whole cradle out and change the wire to make it easier, in my opinion to remove and replace the spools on the centre axle.
I just used a few bits of plywood I had around home and cut up a broom handle for the axle and the handle, when you remove the two slotted ends which takes only a few seconds, the handle can be removed which allows the axle and the spools to be removed with ease. each spool holds a kilo of wire and keeps it manageable.
I have got to buy 2 more rolls of wire to complete it now when I can afford them, and then it will be up and running.
I have put this on here to show you what you can do with a few offcuts of plywood and a few other bits and pieces and many hours of sweat.
I also made a gizmo to put the wire on, from the bought rolls to my rolls, which works well, with a bit of experimenting.
The only problem I have got now is that the missus wants one.

Gee mate, that's a serious wire holder. There has been a lot of thought and effort gone into that one. It must have taken you hours and hours of work.
The detail in the joins is a piece of art. Congratulations on a job well done! You'll be able to use that for many bonsai years to come.

Thanks Steven, that is a compliment coming from you,you are a man of good taste.
Yes I thought about 6mm, pretty serious stuff for my little trees,5mm is my limit and that works alright on it,so I presume the 6mm would work but you may need someone to help you, as it would drag the holder with it.

Looks really good mate, a bit too good to throw in the back of my ute, exhibition quality, how long did it take to build mate,as being a carpenter myself, I can see a quite a few hours in it. :tu:

Thanks guys for your compliments,
Hey reddogy, thanks for your comments, you being a carpenter would know how long it takes to do this sought of thing,a labour of love, many hours, but when you do it for yourself you don`t mind,I have been asked to make a few for others but would have to charge a few hundred dollar to compensate if you had to pay for the materials and get paid a reasonable amount for ones efforts, but I am considering a simpler model and maybe a flat pack so people can screw it together and stain it the colour they like, that`s where a lot of the time goes.
Thanks Paul

Top notch wire holder. As a matter of interest, how many grams of wire does each spool hold, Paul?

There is on that one 1kg on each one when I do them all,got to save up for the other two rolls,so I suppose the whole thing will weigh approx 7.5 KG when fully loaded, but you could only put part of a roll on each to lower the weight but I find it is better to have the weight there so the holder does not move when you pull the wire

Thanks for that, Paul. As you can see I'm very interested in your design and concept. That's one mean wire machine!
