[SELL/SWAP] Pomegranate - Sydney

Post by Qitianlong »

Hey all, had this pre-bonsai pomegranate for awhile, just can't decide what to do with it, happy to sell ($75) or swap if anyone is interested?

If not I'll hang onto it and maybe as I get more experience I'll know what to do with it...

You're growing too much grass... Dig some of it up, cut the tree back to the first branch, plant it at an angle, feed and water, grow it hard and long. Next spring, dig it up, prune the roots and the top hard, plant at a different angle. Do that for five or ten years until your tree tells you what to do. It will.

But because it's lonely, put another twenty or fifty in with it - small and cheap. Grow long, cut hard. Best way to learn.

Best of luck,

Gavin

Glad you mentioned that Squizz.

I was sitting here thinking the same thing?

I only have tiny little cutting but my leaves and other leaves that I recall were much more narrow than this one..
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Hi, where about in Sydney are you? I can't afford to buy it, but it would certainly be going to a good home. Cheers, Nigel

I ate a persimmon while I was out watering tonight. :D Not a Bonsai, just a very sick tree growing in my back yard.

Not wanting to hijack this thread, but has anyone ever air layered one of these? I have to move the tree as it will be in the way of my new shed and I thought I might layer a couple of the branches - just in case the transplant doen't go well.

Graeme, standard ringbark airlayering works good, they also strike easily from semi hard or hardwood cuttings without hormone or any special treatment.

Way cool, thank you for the information. Now I know what to do with the "equalising prunings" I whip off the tree when I transplant it as well. Hope I end up with more Persimmon than I need. ;)
