hi again Damian. Looks like a Cotoneaster to me. A close up of the leaf would help to be sure. Cotoneasters make really good bonsais.

They're mental plants. I collected one in January, potted it up and then literally 3 days later we had a 45C day here in Sydney. Almost all the leaves suffered sundamage and most fell off. Two weeks later it's reshot on EVERY SINGLE NODE the plant has. Never seen anything like it.

Definitely a Cotoneaster, but from what I've heard, not a very nice variety to work with. There are apparently other Cotoneasters that make better bonsai. That said, I've not tried on of these, so good luck and I for one will be interested to see where it goes. Keep us posted.

It is a cotoneaster (the tree variety as opposed to the shrub type) and they do make good bonsai, especially larger bonsai. Bretts has a good one going on this site and I recommed you have a look at it to see what can be achieved.
Just your normal fertilizer and water program will bring very rewarding results.
