I drive by this acacia every day, and it catches the eye. As you drive by, it makes a nice rectangle (which is terrible for bonsai design). For a little while I wondered what natural circumstances allowed it to grow like that, but on closer inspection, this is just the result of terrible pruning.
Anyway, it is rather interesting. In a way I kind of like the sharp, nontraditional bends. If this were in a pot, what would the critique be at a show or club meeting? Thoughts?

I think its great, a line you will see often in penjing & literati styled trees. If I saw it at a show I would want it, cut the whole lot back to the branch that drops under the trunk loops back going behind the main trunk then shooting skyward...

Re: How NOT to prune
I'm glad I'm not the only one that kind of likes it Matt. It seems like it would be a controversial design for a bonsai, but I don't think that's a problem. Sadly it's too big to dig up, and it would surely be missed out of the neighborhood park anyhow, but perhaps I'll begin styling one this way.MattA wrote:I think its great, a line you will see often in penjing & literati styled trees.
