Hi Guys.
this is my first juniper. Im not really sure what I should do first. Im thinking of removing some of the lower branches to make more of a trunk. Should I cut the top down to thicken out the upper branches or leave it as it is. Any advice is more than welcome.
First Juniper.

Re: First Juniper.
Greetings from Brisvagas,
Never cut the lowest branch. Thin out the top to allow more light in. Thicken the lower branches rather than cut them off.
If it has not been repotted check the roots. Make sure there are no roots making a circle around the trunk. Scratch down into the dirt and look. If they are ok, feed it hard until the winter.
Good luck,
Happy bonsai,
Bruce.
Love the ponds called Ewenings.

Re: First Juniper.
One thing I've learnt is to keep those lower branches until you're positive you don't want/need them
Being a newbie myself, I can't offer much more then that lol
I've often looked at these types of junipers in bunnings and wondered how/where to begin with them, and how to tame that 'pencil pine' look

Have a question? The AusBonsai Wiki most likely has the answer!

Definitely some good bends. I'd maybe think of bringing the head over nearer the tail - as they are, they go off in different directions.

Hey Damian79,
If you are going to put it in a bonsai pot, now that you have removed a lot of the foliage would be a good time to trim the roots and pot it as well.
