Re: [tex048] Desert Ash
Apologies to all for lateness of posting - Have been moving house over last month or so, has been a mammoth effort.
Ash is going well, growing strongly as youd expect with all the rain and warm weather.
- Potted up into growing pot
- Selected some primary branches and wiring
- Cutback more times than i can remember
- Defoliated yesterday so i could take some quick snaps

Update
Nothing to report
Since last post have let it grow almost freely (just pinching back tips) into autumn/winter to let it store as much energy as possible
When all leaves have fallen will wire out again properly and think about moving into bonsai pot for spring.
Will also finish carving deadwood etc then
Also have so nice companion plants growing from side of container too

FINAL POST
It's been fun, thanks to Steven and the crew for organizing and overseeing the competition.
I'm pleased with how the Ash has developed over last year, although it was perhaps a little ambitious to choose a deciduous species to work on in such a short time. My trees are generally on the larger size so it has been something different to work on a smaller tree.
Future:
Carving at apex of the tree needs to be finished and thinned alittle and treated, branches will be left to thicken a little more before cutting back to get the foliage closer to the trunk. Then move onto working over the foliage to reduce the size.
Details:
Tree - Desert Ash
Height - 220mm
Pot - Handmade pot by Janet Selby
