Re: de_keizer hinoki
just finished thinning out excess branches and chopped the height down a bit. i havent done any root work yet but that will happen as soon as i get some more dirt so i can pot it into a larger pot.

Re: de_keizer hinoki
i finally got around to putting a bit of style into this tree. what do you think
could someone please help with a quick question, when is the best time to repot one of these as all the ones ive had previously have died rather quickly after messing with the roots. i will admit that when i repot something im rather brutal to the roots but from memory ive treated hinoki's good in comparison so im at a bit of a loss. either way any help would be apreciated thanks

Re: de_keizer hinoki
Hinoki don't like styling/wiring and root pruning at the same time. best is leave it some time to recover before touching the roots. just an opinion.
I have acquired some unhealthy dwarf hinokis, and still nursing them and nourishing them here in my garden.

Re: de_keizer hinoki
not much to report its still alive there was some slight burning(im assuming) of the leaves at the back that i think was caused by being too close to a tall terracotta pot in the heat

Looks much healthier now. I like the styling, already looking more mature.

Re: [de_keizer] hinoki
If you reduce/thin out the foliage in the strongest growing parts of the tree then energy should be directed to assist the lower weaker branches.
I like where this tree is going. Not so sure about the burnt bit as it seems a little out of place to me.
