Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 2
I have let it go wild again but the main trunk lacks movement and the two branches on the right come off at the same angle, I hope to fix both problems br wiring bending and twisting

Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 2
Hi Gerard, I love this species of elm, it is my favourite and I have a few that I have trunk chopped but am yet to collect.
I like both of your procera entries and designs in the shohin comp!
I like the way you trunk chopped this one down quite low...it has given a beginner such as myself a few new ideas for material in general, so thanks...well done and best of luck!
Look forward to see how they progress mate!
I think you have given the main trunk much more movement with the wiring
Cheers, Dario.

Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 2
This tree is coming along nicely, for the present I am letting it grow.
Today I increased the bends a little the wire is still in place and I am much happier with the branch positioning.

A slight prune and wire removed because it had begun to cut in.

Re: [Gerard] ulmus procera 2
Finally into a pot.
But..................
In the back of my mind I knew that I needed to check exactly what height shohin is.
After looking it up my plan needed to change.
Shohin must be between 4 and 8 inches .....or 10 and 20 cm
At 23 cm this tree did not meet the criteria. So out came the heavy wire and some agressive bending in order to compact the height.
I think it is a definite improvement.
It was my plan to use clip and grow methods to build a nice compact canopy.But..................

Improvement without a doubt! Loving the progression of this tree mate good work.
There are many ways to do things, but only one "best" way.
