I obtained this tree in December 2010, did a major trunk chop and popped it in the foam box. It has some new branching now. Since I am a fan of carving and thought it could be a good candidate for this comp.

Now is some new root-work and top pruning. It seems like it need to reduce the top further but would leave it like this for the time being to promote healing of the recent carving.
I'm so happy with how the root system developed after a short time in the grow box. there is no sign that the tape root's scaring and the horizontal spread is very even. It will fit nicely in a shallow pot next year when I repot in spring.
The plan now is to treat it with seasol and ST for the next 4 weeks then gradually introduce high N fert to promote heavy foliage/branching development. The next step would be no doubt ramification development.
I still have not decided the front yet, any suggestion is welcome.

Ok, here are some update for this baby.
The tree has recovered quite well after the major carving and healing fast. I will keep the dense foliage for now to facilitate further healing of scars then will clip and grow the ramification. It is fed with high Nitrogen fert. I am not too worried about leaf size at this stage as total defoliation near final stage will fix that.

Final repot was done on this one. I found a shallow pot to go with this but since the tree has grown so much from the initial design, it has gone a bit over 25cm (including the pot legs). Looks like I may have to trim it hard down to fit the requirement.
