my first big work (bougy)

Post by coomy20 »

cheers all,

has brought a nice bougy this week and today i decide to repot it after some pruning, i mix my own soil for the first time so this tree is going to be my first big experience :fc: .

tree from nursery cost 7usd

after repot and pruning and some minor wiring

the side branch was sitting on the soil before repot and i decide to raises the tree a bot when repot, this is why u see some roots coming out of the trunk, i decide not to discard it this time as i have to remove a large tap root when repotting.
not satisfy with the side branch tough but ll leave it for now.
so i need some of your help with it.
whn repotting i ve spread some rooting hormone on the roots, is that ok ?
i ve mix approximately 10% compost with my soil , can i feed the tree after reppoting or should i way some time before?
do the need tree to stay shaded before putting it in direct sun again?
what would be your next step with this one?????

sorry if some of the question sound stupid,am still learning :D .
as for me i think its best to let it grow for some time now, your opinion is most welcome. :shifty:

It's hard to tell from the photos but is the soil mix free draining ? Bougys don't like wet feet. Don't feed it for about a month - use a seaweed tonic for the next 4 weeks.

After repotting, do not feed for 4 weeks, just liquid "Seasol" or similar 2 - 3 times / week. When you see new growth then you can start to fertilise.

Let the new growth Extend to 4 - 6 leaves then cut back to the 1st or second pair of leaves.
Wire the new branches into shape early before they set into place, as they get brittle and will break easy. Just make sure the wire does not cut in with the fast new growth you get on Bougies
