donnies tree
yesterday i had the delight of don deluca visiting and delivering a tree he had promised me some time ago. it is a 12 yr old chinese elm, field grown from a cutting. we did the initial cleaning up and design brief together and don also kindly did a sketch of the finished tree for me. my immediate work now is the extensive carving it will need. followed by a repot back into the cut out 44 gallon drum. the dimension's are 300mm across the base by 600mm tall. a very powerful tree! the trunk is full of muscle and twists clockwise. i dont spend $1000.00 lightly but this trunk is worth every penny for the world class masterpiece it might be one day.
blowing my own trumpet ? yep!!!
here are some photo's, they're the best i can do until i lift it higher.

Re: donnies tree
Very nice material to get your hands on Antonio! Don has done great work getting it to this stage and I'm sure you will have heaps of fun refining it into a "world class masterpiece".
Any chance of sharing Don's sketch/vision for the styled bonsai?
Regards,
Steven

Re: donnies tree
Ah so this is the tree you were telling me about. Very nice indeed. Do you see yourself working the existing branches or regrowing?
And does he have any more perhaps a little smaller?
Plus I may have to contact Jow now....
Loving the movement and cant wait to see it in person.

azz; thanks its always nice of someone to approve trumpet blowin
el and jezz, thanks yep this is the tree and yes there will be smaller available soon. ps el you know the address.
jezz b4 any more decisions are made i need to get the carving done and check under the soil. i could very well strip it back to a bare trunk. already one day later i am seeing possabilities.
steven thanks on the heads up, heres the sketch.

Re: donnies tree
Are you doing the carving by yourself, or with somebody else?
We would love to see the photos afterward.
Thank you for sharing and best regards.

Please take photos while you are doing the carving Ant.
Even better woudl be to grab someone else with a video cam, and Document it that way
You can then post for us all to look at and learn from

Re: donnies tree
Hi Anttal, sorry to be a pain, but is there any chance you good take a photo of it with a coke can next to the trunk? I know you gave the dimensions but it is the best way I can truly appreciate the girth of that trunk.
