Bonsai Soil Grades

Post by Ben10000 »

Hi All

Just wondering who grades their soils such as Small Medium and Large? My mix is all equal parts of Zeolite,Diatomite,Scoria,Fine Pine bark, for natives that like sandy soil i will add, humus +,
last season i added supplements to my soil mix, like the powder seaweed stuff and a few drops of seaweed liquid, i figured that the supplement would be absorbed my the zeolite and scoria and the plants could feed when needed, something about cation exchange???? too techincal forme?, the trees survived and did very well through the growing season, Does anyone else add supplements to thier bonsai mix apart from the obvious osmocote.

Cheers
Ben

I do not even add that!
Diatomite / Zeolite is all i use and 2 - 7 mm all in the one pot. In small pots ( mame or shohin) I sift out everythig bigger than 4 mm
