Hi Folks,
If you knew someone who has no idea about Bonsai and is traveling to Japan, what would you ask them to bring back?
I know someone who is going soon for a short trip to Japan and I've been able to secure a little of their luggage space to bring back something. The only thing I can think of is a small Tokoname pot or 2.
Any tips on where to go and what to buy that might be hard to buy in Australia? Would need to be close to main cities eg Osaka
Thanks

When I went to Japan, I went to Omiya. http://www.bonsai-jp.com/spot/nursery1.html
One of the little things I picked up was a tub of cut paste in a different colour to that available here. One was better for conifers and the other for lighter coloured deciduous trees.

Bonsai was meant to keep me away from the computer.

I have bought these from this seller numerous times and would recommend it. No need to travel to Japan to buy it lol He will even translate the label for you

Hi Sime
I'm going to Japan next week, principally to Osaka, and was wondering the same thing about bonsai supplies. I would be grateful for any advice from the forum on bonsai exhibits and nurseries there.
Regards
John

Hi John,
Just doing some research and found that there was a shohin exhibition in Osaka on the weekend just gone.
Otherwise Kyoto is near Osaka and there is a nursery called - Koju-en Shohin nursery in Kyoto, Japan. According to one website, this is one of the main bonsai sights in the area.
Unfortunately I've not found any info about supplies though.

I would advise against trying to get a non bonsai person to bring back bonsai items. They won't know where to look or what to look for. And it will waste their time and frustrate both them and you.
Just my advice.
