Neli, when working with larger material I use nylon webbing for its strength & long term durability, it can be used to cushion wire or in place of for tying branches in position ;) This is a camellia in a friends garden that I started working on last year, the now upright branch originally lay on the ground, it took 4 strong people to pull that branch into the current position but after untying recently it has held place nicely. In the next few weeks I will wrap it up & organise the troops again for another tightening of the trunk line.

Matt, I love your use of non-conventional materials. So many of your threads have things like this and it's really refreshing to see people using what they have and experimenting rather than just going along with conventional methods. :worship:

Karl, much of my work is done with garden trees & shrubs so you have to adjust the materials, in reality its not so unconventional, the webbing is a wide flat rope, in bonsai scale I use jute.

For the shohin competition it can still be used on the trunk....but I shall use it on other trees too.

I can not find here many things, so I have to start thinking out of the box.
