Amateur mistake is it gonna cost me ?

Hi all,

Just repoted & done some trunk bending on a juniper I picked up and for some reason even though I had a hunch I shouldn't of I bare rooted it,
Then proceeded to google and read you should never bare root junipers

Not a big deal if I killed it as it only a starter but more curious if it will survive or not ?

I only root pruned a little wouldn't even be a quarter of the root ball & gave it a wash with the hose to get most of the old soil.

Any advice would be great.

Time will tell. Might die, might be fine. I've made the same mistake. Collected two junipers, bare rooted them, one lived, one died. Best just to give it some seasol and good care and hope for the best.

It's all about the after care now Ross....

As Dusty said keep the seasol up to it and located out of direct sunlight until you see new growth coming on.

Haha yeah wont make that mistake again !
As I said not so much about the price of the tree but I was happy with my first effort on trunk bending (it was almost straight to begin with) so would love for it to pull through but we'll see

Also how often should I apply the seasol ?

I don't think bare rooting junipers is a problem, especially young, container grown plants.
If this one does die are you going to blame the repotting or the bending? I have had some die after wiring and bending - probably separated the bark from the wood with too much bending i think but how will you know which to blame?

Ahhhh can't blame the wife for this one
I suppose its all learning right ?
Didn't hear any cracking while I was bending & was hoping the raffia would save me.

Hopefully she pulls through

I have bare rooted junipers many times. I never knew it was a problem. I think your tree will be fine.

Just follow the dilution instructions on the bottle mate. From memory it's 100ml of concentrate to 9lts water....apply with a watering can on a weekly basis and you should be right

After care has been great so Obviously I bent her too far or
The bare rooting done it

Looks like it's game over mate, but just keep it in a shaded spot and let it almost dry out between waterings. Who knows, it may still pull through.

Don't give up yet. As long as it's got some green foliage, its got some chance. Looks like its even got some new shoots breaking through on the the trunk and the two lower branches look be OK

I would hang on. Pick off the dead foliage to help it along as the bottom might pull through.
