Nebarilicious Triple trunk Trident!

Post by AKVears »

Hey Guys,

I need some expert advice on this tree. I've let it go unstyled for the spring but need to decide on a front. I love the nebari with the middle trunk setting back, but hate the big scar it shows. If I turn it around, with the middle trunk coming towards the viewer, does this go against the bonsai rules? I'm also in favour of the tallest trunk being on the left for some reason, not sure why.

All critisicms, ideas, and advice welcome. :tu:

Hi AK
I'm from the tropics and a beginner so no "expert" advise but I could give my :2c:
I'm sure you could speed up the healing of the scar if you really didn't like it.
Someone will have to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure if you scrape the callus around the wound and apply wound sealant every so often, thats supposed to speed things up. :lost: or maybe consider carving it into something else?
Are you planning on lowering the height of that left hand trunk? Maybe even step the 3 trunks in height slightly... a picture of the full tree from the other side could help?
Nice tree anyway mate, wish any of my stock even looked remotely as advanced as that.
Good luck with it and keep us posted

Cheers for the reply Grant :D I will upload another photo tonight. I really like the idea of stepping the trunks, but a bit worried about how much I would have to take off the left hand trunk to make it look right. The two smaller trunks are the same height, and all the good branches on those are right at the top :( Should I approach the design of this tree as more of a forest setting than a triple trunk? Is that going to give me more freedom in terms of keeping the tall trunk where it is? It's probably almost a third higher than the other 2, but has good branches at the same height as the top of the other 2 trunks.

Are these actually separate trees? Can they be split

The issue is that they are all the same size trunks.

Also what is the back view look like?

Hi Ken,

If this was 3 seperate tree's they were fused long before this tree came into my care.

The three trunks are very different sizes although the pics are a bit misleading. Hopefully my photography skills aren't a reflection of my bonsai skills
