Another grafted pear

Post by GavinG »

Bodhi, this is a Himalayan pear I've had for many years. I bought it because the graft (first big bend) didn't have the usual nasty tight hook shape to it. Grew it in the ground for a while, kept growing and chopping without any clear idea where to go with it. The bare part at the first angle is sunburn, vaguely carved a bit. Pretty much ugliness wherever you look.

But then it fell over on the bench during a routine repot, and I saw how it could go.

It will go into a pot this year, finally, and have its branches sorted out. Moral of the story - if you can't see anything in your tree, experiment with different angles, different sides, cover bits up with paper, see what all the alternatives might look like.

Sorry Bodhi, I did a bit of wiring a couple of months ago. Didn't like it. I will clip - it will, with luck, grow. Etc.

(Harrumph).
