Liquidamber

I have posted this tree in the past under a different heading.

This liquidamber was one of a few plants bought from a Albury nursery in the 00s. I bought it for the nice nebari, and have been trying to develop the branching while gradually reducing the rootball.

This spring I hope to pot it into a shallower pot.

After looking at the photos the lack of taper in the trunk was obvious. So I carved out the original cut which has resulted in a more pleasing flow from the main trunk to the main leader.

Very nice! I saw them in SA and almost bought one...Got scared by the size of the leaf. Looks almost like acer!
And your tree reminds me of one of WP trees.
Are they difficult to root reduce?

It took about 3 seasons to reduce it enough to get it into that pot.It was in a large nursery pot originally. This spring I will reduce it again buy about 1/3rd.

With regular yearly leaf pruning the leaf size will reduce but it is slow on this species.

In the 1st photo is a pair of standard size branch cutters to give an idea of size. The height is about 75cm.
