Spring here - or pride before the fall
I rescued this oak stump from a local block-for-sale this winter. And it's the first thing in the garden to have a sign of spring! Just a few, tiny leaves!
I really hope that it survives ..... A week later and it's still going (more leaves and some shoots from the base). And some prunus (pruni?) are flowering. Autumn is over and spring has arrived! You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Really nice stump, look forward to seeing where you take it...

Currently contemplating cutting it into two - the main stump as one tree and the long, termite ravaged trunk as another tree (literati?).MattA wrote:...look forward to seeing where you take it...
They are joined just under the current ground level. I think. Didn't dare was the "soil" off when I rescued it. I'll dig it out once the leaves have fallen this winter.

Its hard to tell from the current pics posted, would love to see it bare before you decide to split it....

Not quite brave enough to bare root this winter.MattA wrote:Its hard to tell from the current pics posted, would love to see it bare before you decide to split it....
But some more pictures.. It's already shooting despite not having lost all its leaves.
The two trunks are clearly joined - separation will involve a saw if I continue down that path

Split them in spring. Repotted in same pot. Got halfway through summer and lost themthoglette wrote:The two trunks are clearly joined - separation will involve a saw if I continue down that path

In a few days. No idea why. I suspect the rootlets got dry while I was away and then rotted.
