Nothofagus cunninghamii

Hi there,

I had a few moments spare so I ventured out into the cold and surprisingly wet night to take a few pics of my False Beech. Its the only one I have left but I will grow cuttings this year as this one has strength. 1 1/2 years it has been in this pot from seedling (i think) and it is well on its way, this spring it will be placed into a tomato box and maybe chopped near the base to get some taper. It is only a youngster but I think there is some potential there.
As this is my maiden picture post here, my apologies in advance for any ordinary photo's.

Hi steve,

I looked in on it Sunday actually.
It has been in the grow box fattening up, I will wait till it warms up and I can chop it back.
I will post up a pic in the next few days

Ok,

here is a snap of my Nothofagus at present.
There is not much to show as I have just been fattening it up for this Summer when I plan to cut it back.
As a gauge, the trunk has about doubled in girth (I had no 5c coin for reference )

Hi Damian, I got sick of my nothofagus sitting there year after year and never really growing strongly so I piled on the seamungus really thickly this season and the results have been great. The group has been growing like mad all summer, I have had to prune it 3 times. So super heavy feeding is the way to achieve results with this species.

Sorry for not getting to you sooner.
I am delighted to see Nothofagus cunninghamii has made it to the shores of the UK.
I guess it was one of the many specimens that made it back with successive waves of Botanists and plant hunters.

To be honest I don't quite know what I am doing right
I am growing mine in boxes and trimming back some of the roots and unwanted branches for refinement a little at a time.
I check the roots around early spring for growth and re pot then but I know it will be different for you.

A fortnight ago I was out and about in Victorias south west and found this great old tree.

This must be the tallest nothofagus cunninghamii bonsai tree in the world!
