Hey, that spot looks like my Second Uncles, nephew's, cousins place!! Deer you say? Yep, that would be his all right. You better not be digging anymore of those trees out of there, or he might get a bit upset. Just tell me the GPS co-ordinates again to be sure and I'll try and clear it with him for you to put back that last one you dug out. OK? ;)

Nice trees by the way and yes your right, what reverse taper? I certainly didn't see any for quite some time of studying your pic.

Holla,

Here are a couple collected trees I am working on this season.

1. A very old olive (age unknown) collected from the desert (parts unknown). Was flat cut at the end of last year and has been powering back. 60 cm at the base.

2. An azalea collected from a garden established in 1904. 55 cm at the base.

My back is sore.

When do You think is the best time to dig yamadori in your area for best success? Here it is almost the same climate as yours...and I have been digging so far every month since october...and managed to grow all yamadori so far...but need to know of I should stop...and when to start again.
BTW I failed to subscribe to your blog...could not find where???

In a Tropical environment like you Neli, you should be able to dig Year round.

Thank You Ken, I have stopped this month. It is cold now...My climate should be the same as Katherine and pine creek. Darwin should be warmer than me...Cold goes to 6C.
I have been digging like 3 trees a month...so far just to see how it is...and replenish my bonsai...but now is cold so I thought I should stop for a short while. In Europe they dig in winter during dormancy...but those are different trees. So not too sure when to start again, or I should continue with the experiment.
The last fig I dug out was last month. It was a bit slow but it has nice shoots now. Other species budded out faster, than figs.

I do not repot Ficus or other tropicals when the overnight temps get below 15 deg C, so if you apply the same rules to collecting you should be fine.
Wait till spring and the temps warm a little.

Hi Watto.
Put a few aside for a possible swap for pots when I come down in October. Or would you like a special one made?
Penny.
