JBP needles yellowing??

Post by kanesham »

Hi all,

Over the last week or so the needles on a three of my eight jbp have started yellowing at the tips and are now turning brown. They are all planted together, watered the same and receive the same amount of sun. There is no visible signs of pests or diseases. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be causing this and if there is anything I can do to stop it? They are healthy and growth has only really stop in the last three weeks or so ( loooong growing season up here).

Hi,

From what I can see, your pine has a rather healthy candle there. So that would indicate it is healthy. And the colour of the needles appears to be matured, so from the photo, I am guessing that they are just plain old and about to fall off.

Might be other members would chime in please?

Regards.

I was under the impression that JBP's and pines were hard to grow up north?
Could it be that the climate is unsuitable for this species?
One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

I have not been up that far yet, so I am not sure what the weather is like up there, but black pines do well in southern Vietnam, as I have seen on various Vietnamese sites. It is hot but high in humidity.

They grow like weeds. Mine were planted last September, then treated to the seedling cutting technique . The one in the picture is one my smaller trees with a couple of them being over 200mm high and pinky finger in girth. And full of buds low down on the trunks. So they grow extremely well here
