Hi Neli , it was a treat to collect from these types of area's .

Meagi's Sumo was 1 of 2 we tried to collect , the smaller one was left behind for another time in the future as the roots weren't sufficient to warrant removal .

excellent material guys, well done!!! this thread has got me very excited about my planned dig in a few weeks. Similar material - gnarly English Elms trampled by livestock over the years.

These are some of the other combination we dug .

These have typical root systems as suckers , every now and again you can score a ripper that ticks all the boxes , these don't but they will do until i can find better or improve these over time .

A quick trim of the roots in order to fit them into pots ,

even if the go into the ground the root work would start along with the reduction of unwanted trunks or branches . No good waiting 3 years on these and then cutting them back , to me that's 3 years wasted .Wiring will take place over the next couple of day's , now to pot up a couple more .

Looks like my one I have at home I got off of Leigh
In a few years it will be a nice one .
I'm back up ur way on Wednesday to visit Matthew's collection .

Hi Andrew F, mate there was dozens of them out there big and small .

Hi Meagi , mate i pointed out numerous clumps like this before we started digging , i think you were focused on the "lost tree" we couldn't find again . We have had around 3 inches of rain since you were here so Mick may not have slashed them , i hoping anyway .

Nice score indeed. I can't help thinking that those three have potential for a group planting somewhere down the track - the trunk lines just seem likely to harmonise, if you get the right angles and combinations. Just a thought. The roots might be less of a problem in a group. I can see the sinuous big root of the largest snaking around in the moss, maybe with some small rocks thrown in.

Hi GavinG ,mate the possible combinations are endless with this material , its a matter of lifting them once configured .

, like i said hopefully Mick got the tractor stuck in one of those big holes Meagi dug

, no doubt they would turn to soup if the machine was driven over them . Cant see any farmer wanting to slash in this weather .

The left trunk need wiring of the apex and a bit of a tweek so it will flow with the rest , I think it works better than the 2 individual tree's .

A well executed composition, Ian.
Looks like a completely natural triple trunk. What are your plans as to repotting with regards to fusing the root systems together? Will you let them have their heads for maximun growth and fusing or take a slower approach with styling in mind?

Hi Biocs , plenty of root on these so it look like a bright future , wired them last night and a quick shape up .

Hi Jezz_39 , mate the root system is intertwined so they will strangle each other in no time , thus holding them together . I'm not particularly worried about the trunks fusing , worse case scenario would be to drill and screw them together with a 120mm stainless steel bugle screw, With old bark at the base this would have to be removed as it is about 8mm thick .
