New rock pillars
Hi guy's,
Here are some pictures of my rock pillars for displaying my large Bonsai they stand around .9m - 1.2m high and were easy to make using weldmesh and 75mm+ river gravel.
My Big boug is putting on a show at the moment what are your thoughts?

I like them a lot Shannon, 10 outa 10 for innovation. Love the Bougainvillea, excellent pot combination. Is the weld-mesh clipped together with fencing clips? Ashley

Nice. Looks good in the garden.
Are you going to water the rocks now to get some growth on them and blend them in a bit?

One of the fabulous things about growing bonsai is as you get old and decrepit your trees get old and beautiful

Re: New rock pillars
Thanks guy's. Ash I used industrial zip ties but need to add some larger steel clips the fence clips kept bending under the pressure. Time8 not sure what you mean mate? Boics I will post some more pictures tomorrow.

Re: New rock pillars
Shannon, You have inspired me to do just this. I never thought of it before. Time8 I reckon I know what you mean - up here there would soon be epiphytic ferns (my other hobby) and mosses growing all over the rocks which would be an interesting addition to the garden. Actually I reckon it would be a good long term substrate for big orchids like golden orchid. cheers all, Ash

Re: New rock pillars
Great to hear of the inspiration mate, and now know what Time8 ment and yes I will let the rocks weather but don't think the moss will grow as fast down here....Ash wrote:Shannon, You have inspired me to do just this. Re: New rock pillars
Ash had the right idea about what I meant. Although I have never had the humidity to get ferns or orchids to grow. I have seen some rock walls that have had lichen encouraged to grow on them (by the rocks being misted I think) to use it as an architectural feature.
Maybe even a reflective pool surrounding them would look good.
that might be a bit far.

Re: New rock pillars
Damian: Nice!
Shannon: Do you plan to add turntables? I would hate to see chips on the feet of those nice pots.
Recently I built some monkey poles topped with a large plastic turntable and finished with a nice large slate tile (thanks to Damian).
Now as I water I give each tree a quarter turn which helps give me even growth.

Q: Why are we all here?
A: Because we are not all there.

Re: New rock pillars
Nice work Damian
Gerard I have turntables for the swampy setting and the Fig but not the Boug yet due to running out of them ... the pillar is also sinking on the rear left side and needs some adjustment this weekend.
Boics didn't know if you want more pics of the pillars or trees? Here are some better shots of the pillars...
